The fall-out from Unesco’s decision to remove Liverpool from its list of World Heritage Sites has re-surfaced well-rehearsed arguments pitting new development against protecting and retaining heritage.
The debate circulating since the announcement has focused on a false premise that world heritage status forces a place to remain “in aspic” while the rest of the world moves on.
For more than 40 years, Save Britain’s Heritage has worked in Liverpool and across the UK to prove the opposite is true. We campaign to re-use historic buildings and places and work with architects and investors to show how these important landmarks can be successfully retained and integrated with new development.
