Since the atrocity of the Grenfell Tower fire, Kensington & Chelsea council (RBKC) has been subjected to deep scrutiny over its policies and practices. This has led to no fewer than five critical reports from the government-appointed independent Grenfell Taskforce, acres of negative press coverage and a second critical audit of behind-closed-doors property transactions. Published last month, this looked in detail at four controversial deals in the north of the borough and found instances of the council breaching its own policies and local plan.
All of this has resulted, quite properly, in a deluge of charters, commitments and guarantees from the council to do better, to communicate with openness and transparency and to listen and not just hear residents’ concerns. A new golden era for RBKC and its residents!
In the light of this Damascene conversion, residents in Golborne ward are quite correctly demanding that the council lives up to its commitments, in this instance in the very sensitive and controversial site directly in front of Trellick Tower.
