Foster & Partners, David Chipperfield, Caruso St John, Diller Scofidio & Renfro and Amanda Levete in running for Hungary competition

The organisers of the design competition to create a new base for the Hungarian Museum of Transport have revealed a shortlist for the project that contains some of the world’s most famous practices.

Foster & Partners, David Chipperfield Architects, Caruso St John Architects, Diller Scofidio & Renfro and Amanda Levete Architects feature among the list of 15 bid teams vying to transform a 7-hectare former railway works site into the new centre.

They are joined by Perkins & Will, Ralph Appelbaum Associates, Schmidt Hammer Lassen, and Bjarke Ingels Group, as well as Hungarian practices KÖZTI Zrt, CÉH Zrt – which is partnering Fosters, 3H Építésziroda, and Építész Stúdió Kft.

The museum said 11 of the shortlisted firms had been invited to enter the competition, while a further four had been added following a call for expressions of interest last month that generated 90 valid applications.

Vitézy said the participation of world-famous international and renowned Hungarian professionals “guarantees that the jury will be able to select the winning designer out of the best talents”.

The competition jury is expected to announce a winner in February.
